Due to climate change, farming communities in Nan Province face recurring droughts and water insecurity. In address this issue, Central Retail has extended its environmental impact to Thailand’s Nan Province through a water resource development project designed to help farming communities cope with the increasing threat of drought. The province is highly vulnerable to climate change, and local agriculture—reliant mainly on rainfall—has suffered from recurring water shortages. In response, the Organic Farming Community Enterprise of Bua Yai Subdistrict launched a project to create sustainable agricultural water systems using solar-powered pumps, while also planning ecosystem restoration efforts.

Additionally, Thai Watsadu, part of Central Retail, collaborated with local administrative bodies in Chiang Khong Subdistrict, the forestry department, farmers, and other stakeholders to support the installation of solar-powered water distribution systems. The initiative also served as a platform for knowledge sharing on constructing water-retaining check dams, particularly cement-core soil dams. In 2024, the project supplied 390 bags of cement—approximately 19,500 kilograms—to build four such dams in the Huai Nam Cham area.

This initiative aims to strengthen water security, mitigate the effects of drought, and foster a resilient agricultural ecosystem. Beyond infrastructure, it provides local residents with essential knowledge in water resource management, enabling them to adapt to changing climate conditions while reinforcing community-based economic stability. Through this involvement, Thai Watsadu exemplifies Central Retail’s core philosophy: to grow sustainably by creating long-term value for society and the environment. The company’s actions are guided by a deep commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, which lie at the heart of its business strategy.
