Discussions about the current effects of global warming have intensified these days, which has resulted in various issues in the entire ecosystem. This ranges from temperatures rising to new heights, melting glaciers, polar ice melt, rising sea levels, changes in the ecosystem and a fatal heat wave which affects humans, the environment and all living things.

Central Retail Corporation Public Company Limited is aware of the problems caused by climate change and is therefore committed to manage the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint. This will greatly help lessen environmental impacts from business operations and work in accordance with the global environmental goals.

Moreover, we have given great importance to handle business operations with quality, resilience, efficient management and use of natural resources. One of the key factors is to promote renewable energy, such as solar energy and increasing green areas, which goes in line with the 26th session of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) that took place in Glasgow.

Thailand attended the meeting and expressed its intention to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the world community in accordance with the goals set forth under our country’s Long-term Low Greenhouse Gas Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS). In addition, we announced our Carbon Neutrality Target by 2065, which Thailand is the first developing country in the world to make this pledge. It is also the first country in ASEAN that has a clear framework for operational measures.

As a company leading in the retail space with both transporting products to various multi-proportioned areas locally and to many countries, we have made sure to be environmentally conscious and reduce impacts throughout the supply chain. The “Journey to Zero” project is a prime example of how we want to promote quality management. One of the goals is to switch to clean and sustainable energy to reduce environmental impacts from business operations and also help reduce pollution problems with clean energy, which is in line with global environmental goals through the following activities:

  • Promoting the use of renewable energy by installing solar panels for the production of electricity from sustainable, clean energy sources inside the shopping malls, ranging from Robinson Lifestyle Mall, Thai Watsadu and Go! Mall Vietnam in 2021 with a total of 42 points in 40 branches. Then the goal in 2022 is to increase to 80 stores, producing energy up to 133,192 MWH.
  • Installing electric vehicle charging stations (EV Charger) in up to 600 parking spots in more than 41 shopping malls.
  • Emphasis on increasing green areas to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emissions, which currently in 2021 we have supported more than 2,000 rais of green area in Thailand.
  • Installing energy-saving refrigerators in Tops and FamilyMart in 777 branches nationwide.

The company has also aimed to grow its business in parallel with sustainable environmental development. We have realized that it has to start from the beginning of the supply chain all the way to the very end, which requires cooperation from various parties. This starts from internal personnel and bringing knowledge to society and all groups of stakeholders from the community level, provincial level, national level, and global level. The company therefore gives great importance to the development of knowledge and innovation in environmental, energy and natural resources management.
